HOT week!

Wow, has it been hot this week!  They say we are setting records for the month of June.  I guess they do not call it Hotlanta for nothing.

I think the temperatures on the outside were actually cooler than the temps on the inside.  We had VBS at church this week.  in a word it was GREAT!  Our youth guy Miles Barnes did a fantastic job putting it all together.  The teeneages and adults that helped were fantastic.  Howard led the singing and did the twist like you would not believe.  All in All it was a fantastic week.

I got to thinking mid way through the week, how in the minds of the kids we were making lasting memories.  I am certain of that, do you know why?  Because I thought back to the memories of my childhood and the VBSes almost long forgotten.  Some really fond memories came to mind, like when Chester Varnell was in charge of the craft time for the Junior Highers one year.  The picture hangs on the wall in the house to this day.  I remember the likes of Helen Gross and Rose Williams and Patti Meadows leading us rowdy kids through all sorts of things.  I remember later years being involved as a leader in High School.  Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, Hallelujah - Praise ye the Lord! was sung in my head a couple of times this week.  No one can convince me otherwise - the boys always won when we sang that one.

Since then there have been some great ones too, In North Carolina, we rocked the house.  I even shaved my head for missions one year.  Wow, I love VBS - can you tell?

So what is the value of me sitting here in my cool office on this Friday afternoon, tired beyond belief, but content beyond measure?  I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the kids whose lives were touched this week will remember this the rest of their lives.  And the beauty is that it was not about the water games or the crazy skits, but the point of the week that they will take with them is that "GOD IS WILD ABOUT US!"  What a great thought, what a great week, What a great God!

Have a favorite VBS memory?  Share it here, maybe even thank a leader who you remember, but most of all be sure, God is Wild about you!

'Til the shout,
Dan
