Wow, has it been hot this week! They say we are setting records for the month of June. I guess they do not call it Hotlanta for nothing.
I think the temperatures on the outside were actually cooler than the temps on the inside. We had VBS at church this week. in a word it was GREAT! Our youth guy Miles Barnes did a fantastic job putting it all together. The teeneages and adults that helped were fantastic. Howard led the singing and did the twist like you would not believe. All in All it was a fantastic week.
I got to thinking mid way through the week, how in the minds of the kids we were making lasting memories. I am certain of that, do you know why? Because I thought back to the memories of my childhood and the VBSes almost long forgotten. Some really fond memories came to mind, like when Chester Varnell was in charge of the craft time for the Junior Highers one year. The picture hangs on the wall in the house to this day. I remember the likes of Helen Gross and Rose Williams and Patti Meadows leading us rowdy kids through all sorts of things. I remember later years being involved as a leader in High School. Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, Hallelujah - Praise ye the Lord! was sung in my head a couple of times this week. No one can convince me otherwise - the boys always won when we sang that one.
Since then there have been some great ones too, In North Carolina, we rocked the house. I even shaved my head for missions one year. Wow, I love VBS - can you tell?
So what is the value of me sitting here in my cool office on this Friday afternoon, tired beyond belief, but content beyond measure? I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the kids whose lives were touched this week will remember this the rest of their lives. And the beauty is that it was not about the water games or the crazy skits, but the point of the week that they will take with them is that "GOD IS WILD ABOUT US!" What a great thought, what a great week, What a great God!
Have a favorite VBS memory? Share it here, maybe even thank a leader who you remember, but most of all be sure, God is Wild about you!

So what do you mean L.O.G.I.C.?
Years ago as a dreaming, starry eyed teenager I thought I knew what I was going to do when I grew up. I just knew that I was going to be a singer and travel the world, setting it up and taking it down every night and moving along to the next town of awestruck followers waiting on me. Oh the dream was real enough, I even designed the covers of my future albums and I came up with a name for the band that would be world famous. We would call ourselves L.O.G.I.C.
It was a great idea but there were a few simple issues that had to be overcome. First, I would likely need to know more than just the chords of G, C, and D, and second, I needed to be able to find the right pitch on a regular basis. Both were significant issues.
But to some extent, the dream did not die. Years later in a career of Preaching, I came back to that lifelong dream - at least the name part. L.O.G.I.C. was the name I chose for a mission work I began to support my frequent travel to the mission fields. Later it blossomed a bit more and encompassed a teaching and consulting work, aimed at investing in people's lives and helping them to be all that God intended them to be. Believe it or not, all these works still are active and going well. I will update some of the specifics later. But for now, let me just enter into this age of technology (a bit late perhaps) and explain the name, the only part of the original dream that came to pass.
L.O.G.I.C. stands for "Lord Our God Is Coming". It is based on the scripture found in John 14:1-6, where Jesus says, "If I go . . . I will come again.". It is the completion of a logical syllogism to understand that if he were to go (and He did - again more later) then He will come again. And I believe with everything I have in me, that He will.
Now a lot has been said of late about Jesus coming again, for now let's just know that only God knows when! But, the fact is true and you better know it, HE IS COMING AGAIN! In fact, this is the cry of my life's calling. I intend to go to heaven and take as many people with me as I can. I live my life as an ambassador of grace because the Lord Our God Is Coming.
So now you know, for what it is worth. Let's make ready for this together. What an incredible adventure. See you the next time!
